Anthropic has introduced a new feature on Monday that lets Claude open apps, browse the web, and complete tasks on your computer. After the rise of OpenClaw, the update signals a shift towards more autonomous AI assistants. Here’s how it works.

AI assistants are no longer used today for simply generating images or finding solutions to your fat loss problems. Instead, they are capable enough to finish your tasks. In a similar vein, Anthropic has rolled out a feature to its Claude on Monday, allowing the model to operate users’ computers and finish tasks on their behalf. The announcement was made on X, where the AI startup stated Claude can now open apps, browse the internet, and even fill in spreadsheets, just like a real person.

Claude Can Now Work On Your Behalf

The company notes that even though Claude can work on its own, users will remain in charge. This AI first tries to use connected apps like Calendar and Slack. It will notably ask for permissions before opening anything else if it needs to access something. Moreover, the company revealed that users can also assign tasks from their phone. Claude will further finish them on the user’s computer. For example, Claude can check emails regularly or create a weekly report for you. The company mentioned that users can stop the task at any time if needed.

Who Can Use Claude And Is It Free?

Currently, the feature is available as a research preview in Claude Cowork and Claude Code. It is only working on macOS devices as of now. The latest update is being rolled out to Pro and Max users only.
